Soul mates are for those that believe in such things
People adorned with invisible matching rings
On fingers reaching for one another in the crowd

Empty are beds for those that despair
Over why there isn't anyone for them to care
And care for themselves as they cry out loud

There are the lonely afraid to be left behind
Settling for the first person that they find
Only to discover choice was made in haste

Others cautiously take their sweet time
Sipping on friendship like a fine wine
Choosing a selection that best suits their taste

Some invite rejection and reject invitation
And commit themselves to a lifetime of limitation
Leaving behind many forks in the winding trail

There are those that veer from the path now tread
Searching for a specific person in their head
Returning home safely without discovery or fail

But those that never find their way back
Follow that apparition until they lose track
And write new chapters to a never ending tale

Letting their hearts wash away in the tide
Drifting along in an anchorless boat ride
The breath of expectations filling the sail

We come together in a higher being way
How we crossed paths, we are unable to say
But take comfort in knowing each other is there

It's different for everyone because everyone is unique
Who you wait for
May be waiting for someone else next week

It all depends on who you are

Not when

Not where
